Summary:

When starting a business, you plan each thing and choose selectively which suits your business the most to grow it among the competitors. In this context, data is the most precious thing that pillars your business. Author Divya Dhami View all posts

Without data, you can’t stand in the market for long. Customer details, financial reports, audits, and other business documents are proof of your business’s worth. So, where are you storing this much precious data?
It becomes essential to have a storage device that carries and protects your business information, and RAID is the most preferred by businessmen.
All you’ve got to do is select the RAID level according to your business preference. Let’s see if RAID 0 and RAID 1 are suitable for your business or not.

RAID 1 vs RAID 0

At first, a Redundant array of independent disk (RAID) is a media storage device system that configures multiple disks and distributes the information stored across the disk array. It is a great data storage technology that can keep your data backup safe with redundancy- the repetition of data for the sake of protection. Multiple RAID levels start from RAID 0.

RAID 0

It uses striping technology- spreading sections of data across disks distributing the information across the entire array.

The read/write data speed is faster in striping the data than distributing it across one disk array.
As it has only a single disk array, striping doesn’t give any protection against data loss. If the failure occurs in the system, the entire information will be corrupted.
Stripping doesn’t provide an option for data backup.
If a disk failure occurs, data would not exist in the array.

RAID 1

RAID 1 doesn’t use striping technology; instead, it uses mirroring technology- using mirror disks in sets of two that have the same copies of files on both disks.

Mirror disks always come in even numbers.
Because of the mirroring in both the disks, it will affect the other one if one disk corrupts
write speed in RAID 1 is relatively slower than RAID 0 as it takes time to mirror the information to the two disks simultaneously.

The evaluation of RAID 1 over RAID 0 gives
No redundancy
Slow speed
No ideal backup
No power surge protection
No protection from physical damage
Only half capacity available to read/write data (another capacity is mirrored)

Now that we know the difference between RAID 1 and RAID 0, it would be easier for you to choose the suitable one for your business wisely. Also, RAID 1 and RAID 0 combined are known for RAID 10, including mirroring and striping of data, which is a better option for better read/write speed and data protection. However, the RAID data recovery experts can help you recover your data with appropriate tools and efforts.

Conclusion

Many RAID levels are available that come with different redundancy levels. It would be best to choose a RAID configuration that suits your business needs best and protect precious data. Failures and damages can occur regardless of the RAID array level and its redundancy. It would always be a wise choice to recover your lost data or corrupted data from a RAID data recovery specialist that has years of experience and has the best tools to retrieve your business successfully.
